Congress insults Dogras, uses derogatory language against Maharaja Hari Singh | For the sake of petty votes | | Rustam Jammu, Apr 26: Maharaja Hari Singh was a great ruler. He was liberal, progressive and nationalist to the core. He never discriminated between the regions and communities and took cudgels with the British imperialists, Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru and merged Jammu and Kashmir with India. We are in India because of his historic decision. He introduced many reforms to give a human touch to his administration. He set up High Court of judicature and established rule of law, reformed the revenue administration and agrarian system, modernized education system, removed restrictions on the entry of Dalits in the temples, promoted female education and established Board of Judicial Advisors. He also set up Praja Sabha (Legislative Council). In fact, the state under him made tremendous progress in several spheres. However, there are Kashmiri leaders who do not miss any opportunity to denounce Maharaja Hari Singh and create bitterness between the Dogras of Jammu and Kashmiri Muslims for the sake of petty votes. They describe him as a dictator, anti-Kashmir and anti-Kashmiri Muslims. In 2002, Omar Abdullah used filthy language against him in Samba while campaigning for the NC candidates. He used all kinds of invectives against him hoping that the NC candidates in Samba and Vijaypur would win the Assembly election. It did not happen. On the contrary, the proud Dogras inflicted a rushing defeat not only on them but also on many others. In 1996, the NC had won a dozen Assembly seats in Jammu province, but its tally came down to four in 2002 because the angry Dogras avenged their humiliation. It must remain a matter of shame for those in Jammu who were with the NC in 2002 and who continue to remain with it even afterwards. On Thursday, rootless JKPCC vice-president and MLC Ghulam Nabi Monga used a similar language against Maharaja Hari Singh while addressing a joint election rally at Sheeri Narwa Baramulla, along with NC candidate for Baramulla Parliamentary constituency seat Sharif-ud-Din Shariq. He not only said that "ideologically Congress and NC are the same and there is no difference between the two parties" but also said that "both the parties have a long history and their alliance dates back to the time when both the parties were fighting for independence from British and Maharaja Hari Singh's rule". "When Congress was fighting against British rule in India, at the same time, NC was fighting against the Maharaja's autocratic rule in Jammu and Kashmir" and, hence, "both the parties have the same history". What Monga said about the Congress and the NC and about Maharaja Hari Singh should establish that both these parties are rabidly anti-Dogra and essentially separatist. The Dogras of Jammu, including Hindus, Muslims and Sikhs, will do well to take a serious cognizance of the negative attitude of the NC and the Congress towards Jammu Pradesh -- the land of proud Dogras -- and refashion their whole approach towards these Kashmir-centric communal outfits. |
