Monga bats for Sarpanchs, anchs; urges Omar to enhance honorarium | | | Early Times Report
Srinagar, June 15: Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) vice president and MLC Ghulam Nabi Monga today urged the state government to enhance the honorarium of sarpanchs and panchs immediately. In a statement Monga said, "The sarpanches and panches get peanuts when inflation has reached its peak. It is difficult for these grass roots level representatives to sustain their families with the meager amount they are being paid as honorarium." Monga, who was elected as MLC on Panchayat quota from Kashmir division, said it has been the constant demand of Congress party to empower panchayats in the state. "When All India Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi visited J&K last year, he spoke about the importance of empowerment of panchayats. JK PCC President Prof Saif-ud-Din Soz has been vigorously campaigning for the Panchayat empowerment. It is high time that state government takes a firm decision and empowers the grass roots level representatives. This can be initiated by enhancing their honorarium and I hope Chief MinisterOmar Abdullah will take a decision in this regard on priority," he said. He also sought proper training, accomodation and adequate honorarium for members of panchayati courts. Monga went ahead with his demand of compensation for all panches and sarpanches who got killed since 2011. |
