2 new Railway Stations coming up | Jammu Tawi remains neglected | | Avinash Azad JAMMU, July 2: On one hand two more Railway stations are being made functional in Jammu division following inauguration by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi on July 4, and on the other hand the biggest existing station in state is still facing dearth of employees at registration counters and triggering problems for passengers. Railway officials wishing not to be named said that there was shortage of 8 employees including four at ticket counters and same number of employees at reservation counters. "Obviously rush at Jammu Tawi Railway will increase when train chug on Udhampur Katra track and instead of providing sufficient staff at Jammu Tawi Railway station to cater rush of pilgrims and tourist, the Northern Railways authorities are busy to make two more railway stations functional," they said. "Around 10 ticket counters are available at Jammu Tawi Railway station but only three are functional due to which long queues of passengers could be seen anytime at Jammu Tawi Railway station" they said and added "Now the authorities are going to open two more stations with three ticket counters each at Katra base camp and Chack Rakhal. They claimed that three counters are not enough to cater the rush of Vaishno Devi pilgrims and there is need for more counters. "This is not only in Jammu Tawi Railway station but same problems exists in other stations like Bari Brahamana, Samba etc;" official said requesting not to be identified and added "The station witnesses long queues in morning and evening whenever passenger board on Diesel Multiple Unit (DMU) train which runs on Pathankote to Udhampur track due to lack of employees shortage. Admitting shortage of staff in Jammu Tawi Railway station, Divisional Manager RN Meena said, "There is shortage of staff but we can manage. The shortage of staff increases due to gap of recruitment drive. He said that retirement process goes on and gap widen gradually. Employees are provided by Northern Railways Recruitment Board and we have no role in it," he said. |
