State BJP demoralized by results of Uttrakhand by poll
Hyped 'Mission 44+' takes a dent

JAMMU, July 25: After a resounding victory in the last General Elections, the state unit of Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) set up 'Mission 44+' for the forthcoming assembly elections hoping that 'Modi magic' would again do wonders for BJP in J&K.
However, if the results of Uttrakhand Assembly by-polls are any 'yard stick' to measure the effect of 'Modi wave', it seems that it is fast vanishing as the BJP has failed to even open its account in three seats it contested in the hill state.
The poor performance of the saffron party in Uttrakhand Assembly by-polls could adversely affect the morale of rank and file of the state BJP and even shake their confidence as it was the same state where the saffron party had made a clean sweep and won all the five seats in the Lok Sabha elections held just two and a half months back.
Banking heavily on 'Modi charisma', the state BJP leadership was dreaming of repeating the feat of Lok Sabha polls and clinch majority in the State Legislative Assembly on its own.
However, the downslide of the 'Modi factor' in the first two months of assuming power is undoubtedly a warning signal for the party since the State Assembly polls are still three-four months away, it would be an uphill task for the BJP to maintain and at the same time carry forward the momentum of Lok Sabha polls' dream success riding on 'Modi wave'.
Political analysts said if Uttrakhand Assembly by-election results are any indication, then it is a major setback for the BJP led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"The party weaved a magical spell on voters in parliamentary elections thanks largely to Modi's mass appeal, however, it looks like the NaMo wave is losing its sheen as suggested by the outcome in the Uttrakhand by-poll results," said political observers. "In first ever election in the country after Lok Sabha polls, the effect of Modi wave was on real 'litmus test' and the results shown that Modi magic has certainly lost its intensity and it would now be difficult for the state BJP to reap fruits in Assembly polls relying on Modi wave," they added.
While, the state BJP 'think-tank' has to ponder over the absence of 'Modi wave' in Uttrakhand where it could not yield dividends for the party, the local leadership too has to go for soul searching to get 'Mission 44+' in J&K accomplished.
