POONCH, July 25: In yet another incident of ceasefire violation, Pakistan today resorted to unprovoked firing from across the Line of Control (LoC), targeting at least two forward posts of India in Mendhar sub-sector here. Official reports said the Pak troops resorted to firing at about 4.30 pm, targeting Peeli Poona and Nowl forward Indian posts. India retaliated. The intermittent exchange of fire between the two sides continued for about an hour. There was no report of any casualty on the Indian side. The firing, which had come from the Pak Deri Dabsi and Haikle Tree posts, was totally unprovoked, the sources added. Sources said the firing was aimed at providing cover to militants waiting on that side of the LoC to cross over into the Indian side to indulge in acts of terrorism. A tight vigil was being maintained to foil any intrusion bid by the militants, the sources added. |
