Calling for protests on Eid; Separatists woefully exposed! | | | Bashir Assad
Srinagar, July 30: Since 2008, every Eid is marked by protests and bloodshed in Kashmir. Protests break out on one pretext or the other, with stone pelters fighting pitched battles with the Police and security forces, there remains every possibility of Eid - the day of celebration and joy - turning into mourning for many whose beloved ones become cannon fodder on this day. Separatist leaders instigating the young, impressionable youth to enter into clashes with the uniformed, armed men which leaves open the possibility of any eventuality, including violence and police action. Such an eventuality on any day is distressing, But on the day of Eid, it is all the more tragic. The call for "peaceful" protests on Eid day has consumed many precious lives in the last four or five years. Many more have been maimed, or lost vision. Government and its apparatus is certainly to be blamed for use of excessive force on "peaceful" protesters. But the separatists who ask for the protests on Eid cannot shy away from their responsibility. There are protests every other day. Nobody questions the separatists for this. But it is unfortunate that despite knowing about the alarming consequences, separatists even call for protests on Eid. How can one justify death and destruction on Eid, especially when separatists claim to be the champions of the "cause", and of spearheading righteous movement. |
