Rajouri, July 30: The General Bus Stand Rajouri, serving as the lifeline within the district and the state since past many decades now has been the victim of total neglect of administration as it lacks basic amenities. The General Bus Stand Rajouri, does not cater to the needs of the commuters. Although the bus stand holds strategic location in the heart of the city and presents busy look round-the-clock throughout the year yet it is more of a road taken over by buses devoid of any amenities both for the crew and the passengers. Any stranger to the area is bound to be shocked over the poor amenities at this strategic bus stand in border town and lack of road safety in the vicinity. "Big potholes filled with sewage water add to the woes of the passengers, locals and shopkeepers, heap of garbage on every corner of the bus stand emitting foul, locals alleged. Sewage water was always seen overflowing in bus stand with heaps of garbage could be seen lying marooned within it at various places. Locals alleged that basic facilities like drinking water, toilets, passenger sheds , sitting arrangements are out of sight and almost exist nowhere at this bus stand from where atleast 300 vehicles including passengers buses leave for several different destinations across the state. The ensuing rainy season has added worries to the bus operators and passengers as the entire bus stand get water logged. After a gap of more than 20 years Municipal Committee had repaired the main drain system passing through this bust stand but the dugout portion is ironically left open making locals vulnerable to the risks." There is no place to sit if you miss a bus and for next bus either one has to keep standing in the rain or sun light or sit on dirty corners of the shops" said Sushma Devi ,a passenger. Abdul Majid a shopkeeper at bus stand said that every year Municipal Committee organize auctions to manage affairs of bus stand but no money is spent for the welfare of passengers. "The vehicles have suffered extensive damage due to bumpy and potholed roads inside the bus stand. The maintenance cost of our vehicles has gone up due to bad roads," a local transporter said. Saleem Malik, Additional DC (ADC) said that due to nexus between traders and transporters the administration finding it very difficult to carry the repairs of the bus stand as they don't let shift vehicles to new bus stand about one kilometer from the existing bus stand. |
