Union Health Minister takes stock of flood situation in Poonch | | | Early Times Report
POONCH, Sept 13: Union Health and Family Welfare Minister, Dr. Harsh Vardhan today visited the border district of Poonch, situated close to the Line of Control (LoC), to take stock of the havoc caused by the flash floods as a result of incessant rains. He was accompanied by Union Health Secretary, Nilanjan Sanyal and Divisional Commissioner, Jammu, Shantmanu. Received at Advanced Landing Ground (ALG), Poonch by the Deputy Commissioner, Mohammad Hussain Malik and Senior Superintendent of Police, Shamsher Hussain Choudhary, Vardhan straightaway went to Sher-e-Kashmir Bridge, which has been severely damaged, and the adjoining residential areas, which have been washed away. He also visited the District Hospital and met flood victims who are being treated there. Vardhan also visited to a relief camp run by the district administration at Gujjar and Bakerwal Hostel. The Deputy Commissioner, M H Malik apprised the Union Health Minister of the damages and the relief and rescue operation. Vardhan commended the district administration for restoring the basic services damaged in the flash floods and assured him of all the help. Later, while interacting with the media persons, Vardhan said that the Union Government and the people of India are fully behind the people of Jammu & Kashmir in this hour of grief. ''The situation that has arisen as a result of incessant rains is unprecedented and the Prime Minister has already declared it a national calamity. I have been apprised of all the damages, both to life and property, by the Deputy Commissioner which I will communicate to the Prime Minister'', said Vardhan. He also said that the Prime Minister is closely monitoring the relief and rescue operation in the entire state. |
