NR gears up to arrange free transportation, relief material to flood victims | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Sept 13: Northern Railway has made special arrangement for free transportation of relief material by coaching trains to Jammu-Tawi and Udhampur and passengers from Katra, Udhampur , Jammu and Delhi area .Accordingly Northern Railway has made special arrangement to clear flood affected persons from Katra, Udhampur , Jammu and Delhi area by running special trains , attaching additional coaches and by regular trains . As many as 15,000 flood affected persons have been cleared so far. A special train was run from Jammu Tawi to Indore via New Delhi to clear stranded passengers and extra coaches being kept for clearing passengers at Jammu Tawi and New Delhi stations as per requirement . Two special trains are being run from Udhampur to Lucknow to clear the stranded passengers today. Free E.F.T are being issued to the flood affected persons at Jammu-Tawi, Udhampur, Katra, Anand Vihar Terminal , Delhi Jn. and New Delhi stations for their onward journey. The passengers cleared from Delhi by trains today for Islampur, Allahabad, Araria Cantt, Bettiah, Katihar, Lalganj, Narkatiaganj, Purania, Kiahanganj, Darbhanga,Bugha,Malda Town and Jogbani, Northern Railway along with NGOs and Gurudwaras is providing eatables and food packets free of cost to the flood affected passengers at these stations. Railway Doctors alongwith medical teams are attending to the needy flood victims . Delhi Division of Northern Railway has made special arrangements for evacuees from J&K. Under it, exclusive waiting rooms have been earmarked for their use at New Delhi Station. In case of onward journey requirement from New Delhi and any other assistance, passenger can contact Station Manager at his Phone No 9717648892 and Deputy Station Manager on 9717631960. Help Desks have also been set up at Jammu, Udhampur, Katra railway stations for the convenience of the passengers. A special help Desk of railways has also been set up at T-3 Terminal Indira Gandhi Nation Airport, New Delhi to guide and facilitate passengers about rail journey. The officers of Firozpur Division of Northern Railway under which the Railway system of Jammu and Kashmir State worked day and night to repair badly damaged track between Jammu-Udhampur-Katra section and ensured restoration of normal railway traffic on this section w.e.f. 9.9.2014. Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) a PSU of Ministry of Railways has made drinking water bottles (Rail Neer) available for flood affected people of J&K. In addition 50,000 Rail Neer bottles will be sent every day to the flood affected areas. The supplies are being sent mostly through Air Force and some through trains. The situation is being monitored regularly at Railway Board level, Northern Railway Headquarter level and Firozpur Division level. |
