Jatwal village plunges into darkness for 18 days courtesy PDD | | | Neeraj Badyal
Samba, Sept 13: A large number residents from jatwal village of Samba district staged a protest against PDD and PHE departments for irregular supply of power and drinking water for the last eighteen days. Irate villagers blocked the Jammu-Pathankot National Highway near Jatwal for some time this morning disrupting the normal traffic on the national highway. Raising slogans against the PDD and PHE authorities the protestors alleged that both the departments are not showing any concerns towards their duties which are termed as essential services despite repeated complaints by the locals and thus they were left no option but to take to roads and block the National Highway. "Since last 18 days we are living without electricity and Water .Most of the children have fallen sick. People are not able to eat properly," said Veena Devi one among the protesters. Protesting villagers demanded immediate action against concerned PDD and PHE employees for harassing general public for the last eighteen days. They also alleged that the concerned PDD and PHE officials are not responding to their calls. Another protestor Asha Devi alleged that the people of the village Jatwal are passing sleepless nights and women folk are forced to fetch water from traditional water sources by walking over a kilometer for last 18 days. The problem started after the transformer in this area got burnt. On receiving information the police officials rushed to the spot to pacify the protesters meantime the PDD and PHE officials also reached the spot and assured the protesters that the transformer will be replaced soon. Following assurance, people lifted Dharna but warned authorities if the electricity and water supply is not restored soon, they would again come to roads. |
