New Delhi, Sept 13 : The Centre has made a lot of efforts to restore communications in flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir, Minister for Telecommunications and Information Technology Ravi Shankar Prasad said today. "Except the Poonch area, mobile services are now available in the entire valley either partially or fully," Mr Prasad told a press conference, called to talk about the achievements of the Ministry of Telecommunications and IT in the first 100 days of the Narendra Modi government. "Of the 12,306 BTS towers in Jammu and Kashmir, 6,211 were submerged in the floods. Of these, 1208 have been restored. Further, about 8000 landlines have started operating in the state,"Mr Prasad said.. The Minister said while BSNL has made arrangement to ensure that people can talk free in J&K for a week, other companies are making arrangements to allow free talk for 15 days. Further, he informed that intra-circle roaming in J&K had been allowed free of cost for 15 days by private operators while the same was being allowed free by BSNL. "Private companies have allowed free 60 minutes/day of talk time for J&K. For the convenience of people, five new PCOs have been installed at Srinagar Airport besides setting up several wi-fi hot spots. |
