32 Ayurvedic dispensaries running in rented buildings in Udhampur, Reasi | All facing acute dearth of staff | | Bijay Charak
Jammu, Sept 15: Even after 25 years these were opened, 32 Ayurvedic dispensaries continue to run in rented buildings in Udhampur and Reasi districts. 27 posts of Medical officer (MO) are also vacant there. Sources in Health and Medical Education department informed Early Times that in 1988, Directorate of Indian Systems of Medicine (ISM/AYUSH) Jammu and Kashmir was created and state government established 47 dispensaries in Udhampur. Around 25 years have passed but 32 Ayurvedic dispensaries in the twin districts continue to operate from single rooms in private buildings. "The sanctioned strength of Medical Officers in 47 dispensaries is 43, but surprising 16 are in position", Sources said. Criticizing the state government, sources said that the government "has been paying about Rs 1 lakh as rent of the 32 dispensaries but has not bothered to raise its own buildings which is very surprising". Sources said that it was very surprising that there was a pharmacist each in 27 dispensaries of the twin districts and they had been running the show for years. Others have a Medical Officers each. It is very difficult for department to arrange the staff whenever someone goes on leave, the sources added. Indian Public Health Standard (IPHS) has suggested that an Ayurvedic dispensary should has two doctors of Ayurvedic and two Pharmacits and a Class IV employee, but the guidelines are not being followed in Jammu and Kashmir. "Whenever, Health and Education Minister conducts the meeting , department urges to fill the vacant posts of Medical Officers but every time ministers have returned them with fake assurances", sources said. |
