JAMMU, Sept 15: Complete administrative failure in Jammu province to effectively respond to the situations that has arisen after the worst ever flash floods could be gauged from the fact that the Deputy Chief Minister-Tara Chand who is holding the charge of School Education is till date unaware of the fact that over 250 children within a distance of few miles from the Jammu city are not able to attend the schools.
As the school books, libraries with official records have been washed away in various schools constructed under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) in Surechack area in Zone Satwari and other schools in Kulliyan in Suchetgarh constituency currently represented by BJP MLA Sham Choudhary, teachers and other staff members are visiting the schools only to mark their attendance on as no effort has been made to clean the school buildings owing to which the teaching is badly affected.
A school teacher sharing the details with Early Times said that the High School Surechack constructed under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan in Zone Satwari has strength of 194 students in total and the strength in two schools in Kulliyan is over 100, but after the flash floods, no student has come to the school as the buildings of the schools are being used to rehabilitate flood affected families temporarily.
He said that ZEO Surechack, Balwan Singh has visited the school twice after the flash floods and has sought help from the locals as well as administration to clean the school building but no one has paid any heed as yet.
Sarpanch of the village, Pardeep Kumar when contacted said that the School Education Minister has not paid any visit to the area till now and nor has he made any alternative arrangement for continuing regular teaching.
As per the Sarpanch, 141 families with 580 members of the village have been affected by the flash floods and have lost their homes and livestock.
