| BSNL yet to resume network fully in valley | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, Sept 20 : The failure of BSNL authorities to restore the telecom network in Kashmir Valley has led to problems of masses many fold.
The failure has added to the banking network in valley also as State Bank of India and other nationalised banks are unable to operate in Valley without proper networking system. According to sources , the lease line of banks which is working on BSNL networking has been totally affected with the result the banks can not resume their normal functioning in the Valley. Moreover the internet networking and telecommunication system in many parts of Valley is still affected as the BSNL has failed to restore the system fully. Sources said that one of the main reasons for the failure of BSNL networking in the State was that the towers of BSL are mostly installed in low-lying areas in Kashmir Valley and no thought was given to the fact that in the event of any eventuality like floods the system will completely breakdown. Sources said that failure on the part of BSNL authorities to take pre-emptive measures has been one of the cause of the problem and failure of the networking system in Valley. The communication networking of the BSNL is not considered as a fool proof system for the crisis management as said by some experts in disaster management and they are for the alternative and dependable system. The experts are of the opinion that the BSNL networking gets jammed during normal times also and under such circumstances the people can’t be dependent on BSNL. Maximum areas in the Valley are still delinked so far as BSNL communication networking is concerned, sources said.
Sources said, that maximum villages and parts of Capital city Srinagar is delinked still as BSNL in last 13 days has failed to restore the networking. People outside Valley are unable to contact their relatives still as they do not have any communication link with them due to failure of BSNL networking system. The failure of networking needs to be given a thought by the authorities in the Department for future as it has created a question mark that is BSNL networking dependable in the event of emergencies. Sources said entire banking network has been affected in Valley and had not they switched over to the BSNL networking and continued on manual system which was prevalent earlier the people would have not suffered to the extent they suffered during last fortnight. Sources said as the BSNL networking has been exposed by the vagaries of weather and it could not withstood to flash floods the experts and scientists have to give a fresh thought to it and start a fresh research to find out alternatives so that in the event of such natural calamities the communication system is not affected. Moreover the authorities in BSNL should also start working on war footing basis to restore communication networking in flood ravaged Kashmir Valley. |
