SRINAGAR, Oct 10: Confusion is looming large as far as functioning of the State Government is concerned. There is no harmony between the various components of the Government and same gets reflected every now and then.
Department of Information issued two press notes that clearly depicted that there is no coherence in the orders issued by various departments. The press notes were issued in connection with the holding of examination for the various classes in Kashmir valley. The press notes were issued by Department of School Education and Minister for School Education, Tara Chand was quoted in the all important press release.
The Information department issued a press release according to which it has been decided that annual exams for the classes Ist, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th and 11th in Kashmir valley will be conducted in the last week of October, 2014. The examinations for classes 10th and 12th which are being conducted by the State Board of Education will be conducted in the first week of November, 2014.
"This was decided at a high-level meeting chaired by the Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand, here today. While taking review of educational activities in the Kashmir valley in the aftermath of floods, the Deputy Chief Minister directed the concerned officers to make elaborate arrangements for smooth conduct of these examinations and issue necessary date sheets for the information of students," said the press release.
The press release had reached the newspaper organizations and before it could be used the Information department issued a corrigendum. The department in the corrigendum said the press release issued in connection with the holding of examinations for the various classes is hereby withdrawn.
Early Times has learnt that the order issued by the School Education department with respect to holding of examinations came in for severe criticism from students, parents and also from the teachers. The concerned stake holders have raised serious objection saying that the infrastructure is in shambles in schools and it would not be possible to hold examinations as ordered by the concerned Minister.
"The State Government has on record said that 4,600 Government schools have suffered damages during the recent devastating flood. At the same time 1,500 schools in the private sector also suffered damages during the flood. Given this situation the order for holding examinations was quite uncalled for and that is the reason the same had to be withdrawn," said sources.
It would be in place to mention here that hundreds of students have lost their books in the flood and as such they would not be able to compete in the examination once they are held. This also became a reason for the criticism of the order according to which schedule for holding of the examination for different classes was announced.
