Transporters deny concession to students, handicapped | | | Shiv Dev Thakur
Jammu, Oct 10 :Tall claims of the transport department notwithstanding, the commuters continue to suffer in one way or the other. Most of the bus operators of Jammu- Katra route are not willing to give any concessions to either students or the handicapped. Students said that a bus conductor while on the way to Jammu manhandled three students and pushed them out of the bus when they sought concession. He sought 50 rupees from the students but they demanded 50% concession in fares. The students showed their identity cards but all in vain. The students said that the conductor manhandled them all saying, "This bus belongs to Laali Shah and you cannot do anything". Manohar Lal Raina (Deputy Transport Commissioner) that it is a legal right of the students to demand concession in the fares. He added, "Every year transport department gives 1 to 2 % discount to the bus operators so that these two categories can get the concession" and "if any operator found refusing to give the concession, a strict action will be taken against the same". He again added that these students should have to forward a written application to RTO Jammu, so that cognizance will be taken by the RTO Jammu. |
