SRINAGAR, OCT 10: Lal Chowk, the heart of Srinagar city which has been ruined by the flood fury has come as a blessing for the business community from the down town as it has become the new business capital. The people from all over the valley who till yesterday did all their shopping from Lal Chowk, now could be seen thronging the down town markets.
In Lal chowk, the business capital of the Valley and its adjacent areas, the business has come to a standstill as a result of the recent flood fury and on account of this the down town area, which was least affected by the floods is witnessing a boom in the trade with the hectic exercises of buying and selling going on ever since the flood struck. The area around the Grand mosque in Srinagar which incidentally happens to be the old Srinagar, has become the place of choice for the customers. The markets in the Old Srinagar have drawn a huge rush of the customers from all over the Valley. The customers could be seen waiting in queues for their turn to buy the essential items, from fabrics to eatables. It appears as if the God has rewarded the people from down town for their service to the mankind which they rendered during the floods wherein they saved the lives of thousands of the people. Even the make shift shops are doing a good business these days which otherwise was going through the rough weather. "It is nothing but the blessing of the Almighty that the business community from the Old Srinagar is enjoying a good trade these days and we hope that business will soon pick up in the historic Lal Chowk and its fringe areas which is in the interest of all the Kashmiris," Said Zahoor Ahmad from Nowhatta. But at the same time as Zahoor went on saying that it has brought along the ghost of the traffic jam to the Old Srinagar which otherwise is a routine affair in the uptown, subjecting everybody to inconvenience, from a student to an employee. Another businessman, Bashir Ahmad said that it is good to see that the business activities have picked up in the old city as everything is decided by the Almighty otherwise it is heart breaking to see our brethren in distress. Bashir said that the government must come out of hiding and do something urgently to boost the morale of the sufferers.
