Police take help of drummers to force absconders to surrender | | | Jammu, Oct 10 : The Channi Himmat is taking the help of drummers to force absconders in different cases to surrender. The court issued a notice a fortnight before the order to attach the absconder's property following which police took the help of drummers apparently to publicize the issue among residents."Police deputed the drum-beaters outside the houses of the absconders namely Gurdeep Singh, son of Harnam Singh of 83/1, Channi Himmat, Charanjeet Singh, son of Basant Singh, and Rajveer Singh, son of Charanjeet Singh," said station house officer (SHO) of Channi Himmat Police Station, Aijaz Ahmed Wani.While Gurdeep Singh was absconding in FIR No 164/2010 under section 201,120 B, 307, 34,115 RPC,3/25,3/27 Arms Act. His involvement had surfaced in hatching conspiracy to eliminate witness of Amandeep murder case and was alleged to be a close associate of Nagar Singh alias Nago. His involvement came to limelight during investigation in the much publicized Giri encounter case.The other two accused who happens to be father and son, were involved in the series of theft cases. They are wanted in case FIR No 147/2013, 129/2013, 111/2013 and 6/2014 under sections 457/380. The court issued proclamation under section 87 of CrPC against them following which police carried out drum beating drive and pasted court notices at their respective residences. Through these notices, court has ordered the accused to appear before it/police within 30 days failing which their property would be seized. Pertinently, Channi Police have recovered the property worth crores of rupees from the houses of the accused persons. "Drum beating is a medium of informing people about the accused evading arrest or shying away from surrendering before the court. Investigating officers of sensational cases usually pray courts to issue a notice called ishtehar to paste it on the walls of the house of the accused wanted by the court and the police. I have ordered junior officers to beat drums along with pasting of the court notice about the absconding accused," said a senior police officer. |
