Jammu, Oct 10: Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) Jammu and its associated hospitals are running in violation minimum standard fix by Medical Council of India, as only six employees, against recommended strength of 33 persons, at Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) have been looking after their duties. These six employees have been performing the duties in CSSD unit of GMC while other three hospitals including Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh Hospital (SMGSH), Chest Disease (CD) Hospital and Psychiatry Disease Hospital the units are running on contract basis having no permanent staff. Reliable sources informed Early Times that as per MCI's norms in each CSSD unit, there must be a Matron, four staff nurses, eight technicians and eight ward boys and four sweepers, but surprisingly the norms are not being met at GMCH and its associated hospitals of Jammu. Criticizing the hospitals authorities sources further said that each day hundreds of surgeries are conducted at GMC but astoundingly the hospital authorities seem not interested to care about the unit, adding that the employees who were working in GMC and associated hospitals, having class IV and their qualification did not met to MCI norms."CSSD is one of important supportive services, without services of the unit which, not a surgery can perform", sources said and adding that the unit works to sterilize equipment's and supporting apparatus required for surgery to prevent infection. Even so, surprisingly, the hospitals authorities are ignoring the most vital unit. "Few months back the associated hospitals made a proposal of technician posts including four posts for SMGS, 10 posts for SSH, six posts for GMC and three posts of CDH forwarded to GMC principal but still principal has not interested to sanctioned these posts", the proposal was still lying on table, sources informed. |
