Demanding holiday on Basant Panchami
Political Hypocrisy

Rana wakes up after electorate show exit
door to NC

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Jan 22: Electorate showing exit door to National Conference has woken up former chief minister Omar Abdullah's Friday Man and newly elected MLA Nagrota, Devender Singh Rana, to remain relevant in Jammu region he recently tried to strike a chord with the people by demanding that government should declare Basant Panchami as holiday.
It is preposterous that after being first party to National Conference's anti Jammu policies for six years, Rana is trying to project himself as thechampion of the religious sentiments of Jammu people. It has woefully exposed his political hypocrisy and opportunism.
Questions are being raised over Rana's demand as his own government had just completed six long years in office during which Rana enjoyed ministerial powers and not even once in these six years he cared about the importance of Basant Panchami for the people of Jammu and importance of revered seat of Mathwar. "Why did he not raise this demand when he was busy in the sycophancy of his Kashmiri political masters?" asked a BJP office bearer in Nagrota.
Suddenly sensitized to the religious feelings and faith of the people of Jammu, Rana is but emulating his leader Omar Abdullah, who too just days after relinquishing office of the Chief Minister that he held for six years, has suddenly started raising issues like constitution of Truth and Reconciliation Commission and relief to flood victims. Omar's censure of Union Government over delay in sanctioning exaggerated relief package of Rs 44 crores to flood victims is also seen as political hypocrisy as Omar seems to have forgotten how his government and the administration responded to the floods in Srinagar. "Omar harks back on Truth and Reconciliation Commission only when people show him the door. During his tenure as CM, he hardly ever made a mention to it" said Triloki Nath, a KP migrant.
Both Rana and Omar have presented shameful examples of brazen political hypocrisy and opportunism by raking these issues.
Pertinently, Rana while demanding a holiday on Basant Panchami had said that the festival besides marking the onset of spring has a special significance in Jammu where thousands of people throng Mathwar Temple to pay obeisance to Baba Ballo, a spiritual saint and a social reformer.
"It will go a long way to meet the long pending demand of the devout, who throng from various parts of the Jammu region to Mathwar to seek blessings of the spiritual saint", Rana had said.
