Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 30: Dilapidated condition of bathroom cum toilet and open manhole of septic tank of Government Middle School Nahoti of District Rajouri is putting the lives of school children into risk.
The students of school which is situated at Panchayat Nallaha of Tehsil Sunderbani are facing huge inconvenience due to dilapidated toilet which is defunct for the last more than two years.
With the callous attitude of the authorities concerned, none took notice of the issue despite repeated complaints by the headmaster of the school and locals of the areas time to time.
Sources told Early Times that the toilet cum bathroom was built by the Block Development Office (BDO) nearly three ago but after its functioning for one or two month it got blocked and not repair was done after.
"With the passage of the time, the condition of toilets got deteriorated and the manhole of septic tank has come off and has become threat to the lives of students of the school as misfortune can happen any time with unprotected septic tank," they informed.
Sources said that many complaints were sent to concern Zonal Education Officer (ZEO) Ravinder Khajuria in this regard to take immediate action for the repair toilet which is of the great necessity for students and the staff as well but despite his hollow assurances nothing has been done so far.
"Children usually play around the open septic tank in the recess time and any untoward eventually can take place. Children might fall into open manhole," they added. They alleged that sub standard material had been used in construction of toilet and septic tank that is why it could not be functional.
When contacted BDO Sunderbani Kamaljit Singh in this context he denied to comment on it saying that he was no authority to say anything on it. Assistant Commissioner Development (ACD) Birji Hangloo when contacted said he would initiate full inquiry in this matter and any official found guilty will be penalized as per the law of the land.
