Early Times Report
jammu, Feb 18: Instead of promotion of second largest shrine in Jammu Shiv Khori, the tourism department has disowned it for unknown reasons.
Monthly yatra of Shiv Khori Shrine has reached around 1.5 lacs, but due to non-availability of required facilities, the pilgrims are managing on their own. "Even the basic needs for smooth pilgrimage have not been provided. There is no electricity and water", said Pal Chand, Sarpanch Poora Kotla Ransoo.
He further said that instead of expanding its area of operation in the town, the tourism department has been ignoring its existing establishments in Ransoo.
"Few years ago, a Tourist Reception Centre (TRC) was established by the department, but unfortunately the department handed over the TRC to newly created Shiv Khori Shrine", he said, adding that on the name of development along yatra track nothing has been done.
"Around 150 lights had installed along the yatra track, due to disrupted power supply it is difficult to visit the cave in odd hours", he said and added that after repeated request by local on the security of pilgrims no steps have taken.
He further said that stands for tourist vehicles were constructed in hurry without road connectivity. "To meet the increasing rush of pilgrims, two stands for taxies and buses were constructed two years ago but connectivity road connectivity has not been provided", the Sarpanch claimed.
During the Shivratri festival, locals organize a Dangal (wrestling) in collaboration with tourism department, but during the ongoing festival, tourism department refused to release funds for Dangal. "Tourism department is funding the Dangal since long but during this festival, the department refused to release funds for the purpose", he said, adding after long arguments the department released Rs 65,000 for Dangal.
When contacted, Director Tourism R K Verma said that department is doing its best to serve the pilgrims. "Tourism department in collaboration with district administration is conducting the pilgrims", he said and added release of payment for Dangal depends on availability of funds, however Rs 65000 was released for the purpose.
