JAMMU, Feb 18: It could be attributed to the failure of Tourism department that after the lapse of nearly nine years, the Golf Course Sidhra is still awaiting completion. Though the date of completion of project was 2013 but after the lapse of two years since expiry of completion date, the completion of Golf Course Sidhra is still far.
Sources in the department informed Early Times that the Tourism Department had started construction of Golf course Sidhra in the financial year 2005- 06, and funds to the tune of Rs, 42.28 Crores were approved for the project. The estimated date of completion of 18 holes Golf Course was 2013 but still the Golf Course is uncompleted, thanks to various glitches, depriving the Golf lovers from accessing the benefit.
He further said, "The tall claims made by Maintenance and Executive agencies of Tourism department to complete the works on time, have been exposed in last many years as due to slow speed of work the players have to move Army Golf Course Miran Sahib.
"The nine hole golf course has been completed for players as claimed by department two years back but that too has been destroyed in the recent floods of September 2014", an official of Tourism department said.
Pertinently, the floods in Tawi River had affected the Golf Course badly, and flood had destroyed fencing, road connectivity and dumped tons of silt over the bed of Golf course.
"One hand the department concerned claimed that after short span, the Golf course Sidhra would be completed but due to non availability of funds, the renovation works of nine holes has also hanged in balance", he revealed.
When this correspondent contacted Golf Course Secretary, Colonel Bali said that before the completion of that financial year, the construction work would be completed. "As soon as the Golf course will be ready, the department will organize the tournament as it will bring disrepute if all facilities will not be there", he said.
Director Tourism RK Verma gave a contrary version and claimed that players have been doing practice there and Golf Course was ready. When asked, if the department has any plan to organize tournament, Verma said that whenever the department would organize tournament, media would be informed.
