Jammu, Mar 15: The department of Roads and Buildings, has failed in the execution of Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) which aims as providing road connectivity to the inhabitants of the far flung areas, as it has not been able to complete as stretch of road measuring 13 kilometers in Kishtwar district in more than 12 years. Sources informed Early Times that 13 kilometer road project from Shiv Nagar to Sranwan in district Kisthwar was sanctioned by Union Government in the year 2003 at an estimate cost of Rs. 5 crore, but after the lapse of 12 years, the agency could construct only 8 kilometer stretch. They further said that four years on, the construction work on the project had stopped. "Many times we urged to higher official of agency concerned, local MLA, Deputy Commissioner but no one bothered to respond to pleas of people of Srawan. D C Rathore, a resident of village Sranwan said that around 600 families resided in Sranwan, but still have no road connectivity . "It is difficult for aged persons, students especially for girls who have to go to college in Kishtwar town", he said. Rathore further said that previous government did nothing for poor peoples of far flung areas and they have pinned their hopes on new government to start the construction work of Shiv Nagar to Sranwan road. When contacted, X En PMGSY Kisthwar, Mohmmad Arif Zulfkar said that the construction work of said road was stopped few years back because a man had died during construction, and the villagers had objected to further construction of road. "However, the matter would be solved and within a month, the tenders would be invited to resume work on this project" he said. |
