Early Times Times
JAMMU, Mar 15: We, at Early Times office, are guided by the feeling that it will not be proper to drop the issue of health minister Lal Singh displaying arrogance while allegedly disgracing Dr Gurmeet Kour, a registrar at the psychiatrist hospital here, in a hospital function on March 9 last and then causing her mental agony. Committed to public service and showing respect to the womenfolk, we will continue to highlight this issue notwithstanding the police role in the case. It remains to be seen if the government or the law enforcing agencies take any cognizance of the lady doctor's complaint against the minister or not. Being a minister, Lal Singh is supposed to be wise, intellectual and reasonable in his actions and public utterances but his March 9 behaviour with the lady doctor has surprised one and all. One wonders if this is the level of his intellectual vision, outlook, perspective, sensitivity and respect towards women. Being the head of 'health family' of J&K, his primary job also includes enforcement of discipline and setting an example for the generations to come. But he has upset people and also disgraced BJP on this front. He quit Congress only to become a minister. His move was very calculated. Riding on the Modi-wave, he won the state polls from Basohli assembly segment on BJP ticket. It speaks of his quality of opportunism. Tomorrow, he may quit BJP to again join Congress. This can happen when BJP loses ground in Jammu and Congress re-strengthens its position. BJP is his third party. In the beginning, he was associated with Congress (T) which later merged with Congress. He is nowadays under severe criticism for "outraging the modesty" of the lady doctor in the March 9 hospital function. People have now started saying if he really deserves to be a minister. While doctors plan to hold a protest against him, some civil society members plan to file a PIL in the court. With his alleged bad behaviour, he has caused disgrace not only to the state government but also to BJP and those who helped his entry in the saffron brigade. |
