Govt to establish 1621 income generation units, employ 12978 youth

Srinagar, Mar 15: In an attempt to generate employment, government under Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) has set a target of establishing 1621 income generation units for the current fiscal. With a subsidy component of Rs. 1938.20 lakh, these units according to spokesman generate employment for 12978 unemployed youth of Kashmir division.
According to official spokesman, this was given out in a review meeting of PMEGP. The meeting was organized by Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB) in collaboration with Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) with Director Industries in chair.

In the meeting, it was given out that upto February 2015 under the scheme 539 beneficiaries who were covered under the scheme included 132 under women category, 374 under minority category while 33 under scheduled tribe category.
"Out of these units 260 units were provided margin money Rs. 369.18 lakh creating employment opportunities for 1827 persons. The central government is providing additional funds to the tune of Rs. 14 crore to the implementing agencies under PMEGP to achieve the targets fixed for the current fiscal," said the official spokesman.
The Director industries urged the banks and other financial institutions to provide hassle free loans to beneficiaries for setting up income generating units to make the scheme enable for much needed employment generation.
