JAMMU, Apr 19: Jammu West defeated Jammu South 9-7 in a closely contested final to lift the 12th Bhai Gurubaksh Singh State Korfball Championship held at Green Field ground, Gandhi Nagar, here today. Since both finalist teams comprised local players, the match created interest among their respective fans, who enjoyed every move of the game. Irfan Choudhary scored highest four goals while Abeek and Divanshu added three and two respectively from winning side. From Jammu South, Mohit made three goals, followed by Shubham two, Jatinderpal and Deepanti one each. Manjeet Singh and Tarandeep Singh were referees. In the final and prize distribution function, former MLC and life president of the J&K Korfball Association, TS Wazir was chief guest, who gave away winners and runners up trophies as also other individual prizes. Speaking on the occasion, chief guest told the gathering that state players have the potential of beating top sides of the country. He assured the Association and the players all possible help. Earlier, 14 teams, drawn from 12 districts of the state took part in this state championship held under the aegis of J&K State Sports Council. Prominent among those present were JBS Bali (joint secretary), Brij Bloria, Talok Singh, KS Rishi,Usha Chuni, RK Sharma, VP Sharma, Desh Bandhu, Navjeet Singh Khalsa, Bhupinder Singh, Joginder Singh, SK Sharma and Dheeraj Sharma of J&K Korfball Association. |
