Early Times Report

Rajouri, Apr 19 : Anganwari workers and helpers in district Rajouri are feeling themselves on the receiving end due to nonchalance of the Social Welfare Department towards their care and conduct.
Talking to Early Times , the hierarchical body of the Anganwari workers and helpers divulged that since the inception of the concept of roping in anganwari workers and helpers , the government has stood on the stubborn stand of relief for them as no initiative have been mooted to give them due representation or the hike in the emoluments.
The president Sakeema Bano , Vice president Rohit Sharma and secretary Pawan Kumar were of the unanimous opinion that anganwari workers are treated in abeyance and have been put on fixed salaries since the onset of the system with no hike from any quarter.
As per their duties, these anganwari workers have to move 20 kilometers in their peripheries of the residence while taking u0p pulse polio campaign, election duties and execute them with full zeal and dedication.
" Despite executing our duties in true spirits, we are not paid handsomely so that we can run our families who generally live hand to mouth on the paltry sums paid to us ," lamented Sakeema Bano , President Angaanwari workers' union president talking to Early Times.
She said that the union had many times listed their grievances with the social welfare department, but to no avail. .
As per the existing norms, the anganwari workers are paid Rs 3500 per month while the helper is given a paltry Rs.1800.
They are of firm opinion that with the turn of the dispensation in the state and with new incumbents taking over the reins of governance assuring good governance and development of all sections of the society, the union has reposed faith on the social welfare department minister Bali Bhagat to give audience to their plea and address their problems.
When contacted, the minister for social welfare department, Bali Bhagat assured the deputation that their genuine demands would be looked into with great priority and as sooner the system sets in place their grievance would be addressed.
However the minister informed that the department itself is running in deficit of Rs 9000 cr and the government is putting up all efforts to streamline the system.
"As soon as the department becomes self-sufficient, the problems of the anganwari workers and helpers would be addressed," assured Bali Bhagat.
