Jammu, Apr 19: Run for Fun organised by Jammu and Kashmir Police at Gulshan Ground and thousands participated including men, women and children from different age groups in the State level Marathon started from Police Sports Stadium, Gulshan Ground. In the wee hours, the Marathon of different groups was flagged off by Additional Directors General of Police, SP Vaid, SM Sahai and Dilbag Singh from the venue. People from city and other parts of Jammu division had thronged the venue to participate in the Marathon. Large number of athletes from different educational institutions of the State, sports bodies, Police, chamber of commerce, media fraternity, besides children and senior citizens joined the Run. While, appreciating the role of Jammu and Kashmir Police in promoting sports culture in the State, Minister for Industries and Commerce, Chander Prakash Ganga has said that athletics are gaining more popularity among the people, which is a positive sign for a healthy society. Minister was speaking on the prize distribution ceremony of Marathon Minister also lauded the efforts of ADGP (Armed), and his team for conducting the mega event in Jammu City. He said that such activities should be conducted at different levels to hone the budding talent. He also assured that government will provide every possible assistance to promote sports activities and implementing new sports policy in the Organization. In his welcome address, organizing Secretary, SM Sahai said that the aim behind organizing sports events is to refine sports talent and strengthen bonds with the people. He reiterated that the police organisation would continue its efforts to inspire the youth of the State towards sports and for this purpose such events would be held at different levels. He thanked the people for their participation in the Marathon and said that huge participation of the people has encouraged police organisation to conduct such events. Sahai disclosed that JKP is introducing a new sports policy under which various initiatives would be taken to encourage the sports persons to excel at different levels. He said that the policy, when implemented, will bring fruitful results in boosting sports culture. Job opportunities would be created for outstanding sports persons in the organization, he added. On the occasion, Sanjiv Kumar, Tanvir Hussain, Balvinder Singh, Rajesh Sharma, Amit Sharma, Manan Sofi, Umer Hameed, Zubair Ahmed, Sunny Kumar, Adil Ahmed, Vikas, Mehraj, Mohammad Asif, Amarjeet, Ashok Kumar, Neelam Singh, Danish Kumar, Ranvir Singh, Sunil Kumar and Chandan Singh were declared winners in men's category. Similarly, Tulsi Pandey, Kritharthi, Sakshi Verma, Damni Sharma, Shama, Shriya Gupta, Gugun, Sapna, Somya, Soniya, Gurpeet Kour, Insha Wadoo, Manpreet Kour, Namrita Katosh and Jaspreet were adjudged winners in women's category. In the police and para-military category, Riyaz Ahmed, Narish Kumar, Lavjeet Singh, Parshotam Kumar, Mohammad Rafiq, Anil Singh, Zaffar Ali, Lal Singh, Imtiyaz and Mehraj-ud-din were declared winners. The winners were awarded cash prizes and certificate of participation by the Chief Guest. |
