srinagar, May 6: Faculty of Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura has refused to follow the biometric time and attendance system which was recently installed to improve efficiency of the work in the only tertiary health institute.
Sources said that SKIMS Director Dr. Showkat Ahmad Zargar had on May 1 issued a circular to all its employees to go by the biometric system while starting and ending their duty.
Biometric time and attendance technology brings efficiency to the workplace by keeping better tabs on the employees in a given workforce. With biometric time and attendance solutions employers cut down on time fraud. By having an automated and accurate attendance records, administrators can focus on more pressing matters.
The faculty members, sources said, have written to the director that they will not follow his directions of using the biometric system.
Annoyed by the doctors' denial, the non-gazetted employees of the institute today protested against the move of the doctors.
"Why would not the doctors follow the director's circular? Their refusal means that only non-gazetted and paramedics have to go by the new system of attendance," Shabir Hussain, spokesman of the Non-Gazetted Employees Association told Early Times.
Shabir said that the new system is better which is aimed at improving the work culture and efficiency of the hospital. "But it should be a uniform direction which should be followed by all the employees irrespective of their designations," he said.
The employees association also slammed the SKIMS administrators for its recent decision of asking the visitors to pay Rs.100 after evening. It said such decisions are arbitrary and always heavy on the visitors who come to the hospitals to inquire about the health of their patients.
SKIMS head Dr. Zargar had defended the move saying it will cut the 'unnecessary' visits by people.
