Anantnag, May 6: With Mumbai sessions court sentencing Bollywood Actor Salman Khan to 5 years in Jail in a hit and run case, the poor family of Anantnag's Aishmuqam-Deavoor village, adopted by the actor, on Wednesday expressed grief over the Court Verdict, saying they have lost only hope of survival.
"Salman Shab was only hope for me. Today's Court verdict has shaken me and my family. We pray to Almighty for his early release," 75-year-old matriarch, Zaina Begum told Early Times.
She said that no one from the state government helped her during the last fifteen years when she used to beg for alms on festivals to keep her destitute family alive.
"We were asked to vote but in return no one helped us. It was he (Salman Khan) who assured help and only after few days of his commitment, material for the construction of my home was dumped," Zeeba Bagum said.
She along with her two daughters met the actor in Pahalgam while he was filming in for Kabir Khan directed film- Bajrangi Bhaijaan with an 'application' for help earlier this week. "He is so nice a human being that when I went to Pahalagm and narrated my ordeal to him through a written application, he came down from his car and put his hand on my head. He even clicked photographs with me and my children," recalls Zeeba.
Pointing towards the material which the actor has dumped, Zeeba broke down and said that she was discriminated by every government and due to today's court verdict they have again lost hope of survival.
Zaina Begum has been struggling, with her 40-year-old widowed daughter Dilshada Jaan, to raise four grandchildren- Gowhar (18) Rukaiya Jaan (15), Khalida Jaan (12) and Khushboo Jaan (10), who moved into her modest home after the untimely demise of their father in Aanantnag where the deceased was working as a labor.
Zeeba describes Actor as "a savior, a messiah", and said the he was likely to change their destiny by employing her elder grandson in the film unit.
"Before ten years my son died in Anantnag when he fell down from a slab of house where he was working as a labourer. After that no one come to console us. I went to every office for help but no one actually helped us," she said.
When asked had government benefited her Under IAY housing Scheme, she said, "So many times I visited Rafi Ahmad Mir (former MLA Pahalgam) but he never helped me. Once he tore my application into pieces. So is Altaf Ahmad Kaloo (MLA Pahalgam) he also assured help but never helped," she said, adding influential and rich were benefited under the scheme.
Earlier in the day, Salman Khan was handed out a five-year jail term by a Mumbai sessions court after being found guilty of all charges in the 2002 hit-and-run case. However, Khan was granted two days interim bail by High Court after Khan's lawyer moved High Court for the bail application.
