srinagar, May 6: Patient care is likely to suffer in Premier Health Institute of Kashmir, Sheri-Kashmir-Institute-of-Medical-Sciences (SKIMS) in coming days where suspension issue of employees has taken an ugly turn. Arround 1500 hundred non Gazzetted employees of SKIMS protested here today against what they said unnecessary routine suspension of employees by the Director and accused him of harassment. They threatened to continue their protests if their demands were not met.
The agitating employees said the director shall be responsible for inconvenience caused to the patients. Abdul Rehman, President Employees welfare Association SKIMSdemanded that the Director must cancel suspension of the employees. which he allegedly does more often to harass employees, announce bio-metric attendance system for whole staff instead and not only for non gazzetted employees, cancel100 rupee entry fee system during evening hours and issue an order that one senior doctor not a fresher handles patients referred from Far flung areas to here. Director SKIMS, Dr Showkat Zargar while talking to early times said that 'not only suspension but now he is going to forcibly retire some employees also for creating mess in the institute and added that it is not for the first time that he has suspended anybody but in last three years he suspended around 15 employees who were involved in unlawful activities and his strictness will remain intact unless employees do not learn how to work in a premier institute.' "I am preparing a list which includes more suspensions, legal action and forcible retirement of some employees as well who have been illegally recruited 25 years ago, I am keen to amend the system here and I will not allow patient care to suffer anyways come what may," added he.
The issue surfaced after employees at SKIMS came on roads few days ago after authorities suspended two more non Gazzetted employees, Shabir Ahmad Malla whom authorities said was involved in misconduct within SKIMS premises with another employee over an issue between them and another female employee namely Farooqa Jii who also according to authorities at SKIMS was on unauthorized leave and had refused to work during night hours in the Hospital. Pertinently according to details available number of non gazzetted protesting employees working in SKIMS is around 5000 and incase the authorities at SKIMS and employees continued with their rivalry, patient care is likely to suffer.
