Toll Plaza leaves Lakhanpur MC high & dry | Pays no fee for 10 years | | Early Times Report
KATHUA, June 19: The much used word 'accountability' has been yet again abused by Toll Plaza and various other government departments which allegedly have not paid the requisite charges for the building permission to nodal municipal authority. The Kathua Municipal Committee despite having a huge construction area is incurring huge loss of revenue to the said nodal agency. As per reliable sources, the non-payment of the fee by the Toll Plaza including police, tourism and other departments have left the Kathua Municipal Committee alone to face the brunt of losses. Sources said that the municipal committee of Lakhanpur being the nodal authority have fixed an amount of Rs. 28 lakhs as fee against the building of Toll Plaza at Lakhanpur, but even after 10 years of its functioning, the committee of Lakhanpur is still deprived of the pre-requisite fee. Sources added at the time of its inaugration, the then CM of State, Omar Abdullah assured the Muncipal Commitee that fee would be charged from the toll plaza but the NHAI have not given any fees till date and "none of the notification regarding deposition of fees by the NHAI is published anywhere," sources added. Advocate Sunil Gupta, ex-president Muncipal committee Lakhanpur said that the money which is to be charged by the municipal committee is being utilized by the Muncipal committee for the development of the locality and has to be recovered anyhow. He said, " we have already discussed the matter with NHAI and we will now file a PIL, if NHAI still failed to submit the fixed fee". Vinod Kumar, Executive Officer, Municipal committee Lakhanpur when contacted said that the Municipal committee, being nodal authority have not received any amount from the said departments as fee against the buildings established by them. |
