Early Times Report
Machhedi/Bani, June 19: Tehsil Machhedi is just another example of plight of the people who thought that their lot would change after creation of new administrative units by the previous government as the Tehsildar and other revenue officials of this newly created tehsil operate from Billawar while their offices are abandoned.
People have raised the issue to before MLA and district administration but to no avail as they have to travel to Billawar, 45 km away from Machhedi braving bad road for their usual works.
Khushi Ram Sarpanch, Machhedi said people appreciated the decision of the state government for declaration of Machhedi as Tehsil headquarter but they got nothing than announcement. Interestingly, the offices made on the land donated by the villagers have become refuge for stray animals.
Kushi Ram appealed to Chief Minister to visit the area and review the existing status that would stir his inner conscience that officers, who are being paid for serving the people, never visit their actual place of posting.
Abdul Majid Akhtar, a local said they have been suffering since independence as they approached Tehsil Basholi before 1968 then Billawar even after declaration of Machhedi as Tehsil in 2014. He said Politicians ensured them to instruct officers for functioning from Machhedi Tehsil but nothing happened.
People now demanded that the officers must start functioning from Tehsil headquarter like other new tehsils to mitigate the sufferings of people who approach to concern officers in another Tehsil. Ram Lal, Mahesh Kumar, Chaman Lal and many others had similar views and threatened to hold agitation at large scale if their demand is ignored by state government.
When approached to DDC Kathua, he refused to comment on a issue of pressing public relevance, reflecting his indifference and apathy on the issue.
