Early Times Report KATRA, June 19: The only Stadium at Katra is undergoing construction at Snail's pace. Katra was promised a latest and multi purpose sports stadium as its foundation stone was marked out and the stadium was about to be constructed by Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board at an estimated cost of Rs 11 crore within a period of two years. The stadium with a capacity of 4,000 spectators, having many provisions, including cricket, football and hockey grounds, volleyball court, squash court, changing rooms and a bigger parking space have became a point of discussions now a days. Rishav , a player living in Katra said, "the players from Katra always had to go to the nearby stations like Jammu to practice for big matches which affected the performance of the katra players." "The locals are aghast over slow pace of work on the stadium. An official of Shrine board said that the work is apace on the construction of Lawn Tennis Court and 3 main gates of the stadium and this project is at its final stages of completion. He added that moreover, main pavilion building and grounds have already been completed and natural grass turf has been laid and automatic pop-up sprinkle irrigation system is operational too. He further added that an indoor activities hall, table tennis, volleyball and basketball courts have also been completed and the work is also going on quickly in providing parking facilities for around 250 vehicles and "the project will soon get its completion", he added. |
