Free LPG connections to 50,000 BPL families in J&K soon: Government

JAMMU, June 26: As many as 50,000 families living below the poverty line in Jammu and Kashmir will get free LPG connections under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Minister for Consumers Affairs and Public Distribution Choudhary Zulkar Ali informed this during his surprise visit to HPCL Bottling Plant at Bari Brahmana Jammu to inspect facilities and preparedness of supply to the customers.
The Minister said BPL families would be exempted from depositing security money for the cylinder and regulator. They would just have to pay the cost of the LPG."For a free connection, belonging to the BPL category is the only criteria," he added.
Zulfkar inspected the entire LPG Bottling Plant and he was apprised about the working of the Plant. While expressing his satisfaction over the bottling process, the Minister directed to ensure that the consumer will get accurate quantity of LPG. He said that around 50,000 families living in below poverty line(BPL) in our state will get free LPG connections under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).
During his visit a mock Fire drill was performed by the mock fire drill team of HPCL and the minister appreciated the performance of mock fire drill and lauded the emergency handling preparedness of HPCL.
The minister was apprised about HPCL set up in J&K through an power point presentation.
The Minister appreciated the scheme ''GIVE IT UP" launched by the centre government and appealed the people of J&K, those who can afford to give up LPG subsidy should "GIVE IT UP" to the needy people who have no option but to cook on wood till day. He said this noble act will help in setting up an LPG connection to poor people.
The Minister also planted a plant in the premises of the HPCL Bottling Plant Bari Brahmana.
Among others, Director CAPD G. S. Chib, Joint Controller Legal Metrology Department Amar Singh, Deputy Controller Legal Metrology Department Manoj Prabhkar, other senior officers were also accompanied the Minister.
Later, the Minister also reviewed the physical and financial achievement under Legal metrology Department in a meeting convened here today.
