| SSRB's 'bonafide' rider for students seeking degrees from outside J&K | | Teachers' list withheld for production of 'certificates', genuine aspirants suffer | | Early Times Report
Jammu, June 26: The future of hundreds of genuine aspirants for the posts of teachers is at stake and in uncertainty, thanks to flawed education system which is becoming a stumbling block in their smooth selection through State Service Recruitment Board. In the recently released list of teachers for Rajouri district, the result of around 289 aspirants have been withheld by SSRB pending production of 'bonafide' education certificates from concerned educational institutions from where they have studied.
While one wonders at this term 'bonafide', sources attributed its background to an order issued few years back by the SSRB in order which the latter was forced to issue following directions from the High Court. The SSRB had issued a notification on November 12 with respect to Ad no. 7 of 2010 by the Department of Education to fill vacant posts of teachers . In this it had specified that only Kashmir University, Jammu University, IGNOU, Maulana Azad Urdu University and DOEACC degrees have been mentioned as valid . It had refused to accept degrees under distance mode pursued from institutions outside the state, sources further said adding that in this notification SSRB had quoted in clear words other than IGNOU and DOEACC degrees or diploma obtained under distance mode will not be accepted in so far as the eligibility is concerned, until these are accepted by registered institutions of the state as also by J&K State Board of Technical Education.
Pertinently, there are hundreds of such educational institutions spread across the state , no matter running under just room which over the years have flourished their business by enticing the vulnerable students with not just fake degrees but also with high merit certificates. The government, particularly the Education department over these years has conveniently allowed such institutions to establish which in turn have lured thousands of students in their trap, sources said. However, the SSRB has made one more thing clear that there is nothing wrong if the students get degrees from outside the state recognized educational institutions albeit with a rider that they should be registered as regular students with these universities not seeking degrees from distance mode.
What gives an unpalatable twist to the story with this background is that hundreds of students who have got degrees as regular students from the recognized universities of the state suffer badly when it comes to selection process of teachers which is again flawed and inconsistent for more than one reason, sources explained. They lag far behind when the merit is counted in the final list as the students seeking degrees from outside 'manage' to get far higher percentage of marks which counts. Moreover, the SSRB more often than not keeps the list withheld for production of bonafide certificates by students having studied from outside the state universities and it usually takes one year to clear the list. Those left behind in waiting list are mostly the ones having studied in the state but having secured less percentage of marks, sources said adding that this makes actually the genuine and bonafide students of the state suffer badly. |
