Fear psychosis persists in Sopore town after unidentified gunmen tried to kill another two activists of Jammat-e Islami

BARAMULLA, June 26: Fear psychosis persists in Sopore town of Baramulla district in North Kashmir as unidentified gunmen tried to kill two former militants yesterday morning. According to sources that the spate of killing in the town have scared the former militants and the supporters of Jammat-e Islami and now when the situation had started to normalize the two incidents that occurred yesterday morning at Sehri time have left the villagers high and dry.
Unidentified gunmen forcibly tried to enter into the house of a former militant Mohammad Yousf Ganie during Sehri time on Thursday morning. Ganie who runs a Bandsaw mill had not responded to the repeated knocks of the unidentified gunmen, said sources.
The gunmen made an attempt to enter into the house through front gate but were attacked by a stray dogs, whom they killed by pumping two bullets right into its head and eyes, sources added.
The house of Ganie was surprisingly locked up at the time of the incident. Sources said that he has been shifted to some safer places.
According to locals the unidentified gunmen soon after killing the stray dog entered into the courtyard of Sharief-Ud Din Shah and knocked at their door, Shah is believed to be an ardent activist of socio religious organization Jammat-e Islami.
However his son Altaf Ahmad Shah is a former militant who runs a provisional store in the main market of Sopore, said locals.
The gunmen fled from the scene after the inmates of Yousf has made hue and cry, the inmates had not opened the door and instead yelled at them, sensing trouble they fled from the spot, a family member said.
They said that they are so scared that they are hardly able to move out from their house during morning and evening hours.
One can himself perceive the tense atmosphere in the village. Life used to abuzz with activity here, but it looks a ghost place now. Nobody knows what will happen in the next moment, they added.
Meanwhile it is learnt that army in the Sopore town has issued a helpline number for non locals urging them to contact the troopers in case they face any trouble.
Recently unknown persons had circulated a letter to Jamia Imam that asked all the non locals especially Biharis to vacate from Sopore town. Army soldiers have visited their places and have provided them the phone numbers and asked them to call on their number if they face any sort of trouble, said sources.
