Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 26: The Health Minister Chaudary Lal Singh had to eat a humble pie after he trained his guns at a class-IV employee and blamed him for overcharging patients for the OPD tickets at District Hospital Rajouri.
Sources told Early Times the incident took place last Tuesday during Choudhary Lal Singh's visit to Rajouri. "As soon as the Lal Singh reached the hospital he was told by somebody that the OPD wing is allegedly charging extra money from the patients…. Lal Singh turned furious and asked for the person who has been assigned the job of issuing OPD slips," said sources.
"When told that the need based employee Mushtaq Ahmed was deputed to issue OPD slips, Lal Singh in a fit of rage caught hold of Mushtaq from the collar of his apron and immediately ordered the police to arrest him," sources added.
They said that after getting on the spot instructions from the Health Minister, the police detained Mushtaq but Police had to leave him soon as the officers accompanying the Minister failed to establish his guilt as the poor man was innocent. "Officials counted the amount collected against the OPD slips issued by Mushtaq but were left red faced when the amount matched with the number of OPD slips that were issued," sources added.
"On finding that there is nothing substantial against Mushtaq, the utterly embarrassed Health Minister Lal Singh then started using abusive language against the innocent employee and warned him not to indulge in any sort of financial misconduct in future so to avoid punitive action," said sources.
"The uncalled for behavior of the Health Minister Lal Singh has once again vindicated claims of several people, who bore the brunt of his short tempered attitude from time to time, that he acts like a dictator….. In this particular episode the Health Minister exhibited powers of police, magistrate, director, secretary, principal and head of all departments which is nothing but the dictatorial approach in handling the functioning of the department under his control," they added.
