Jammu, June 26: To tackle repetition of flood like situation here, Government has decided to pull down all the illegal constructions which were raised by blue eyed people in nexus with corrupt officials over the years around water bodies on war footing bases.
As year 2015 witnessed flood like situation twice till date and challenged government men and machinery every time, Minister of state (MOS) for Irrigation and Flood Control, Abdul Majeed Padder said that 'it is high time that they (government) appear with all the required men and machinery arround banks of rivers and flood channels across Kashmir to pull down illegal encroachments.'
"We have actually framed a Policy to deal with illegal encroachments raised by people over the years and we had earlier decided to complete dredging of Jhelum on Priority, but now we will do dredging and demolition of illegal encroachments together to avoid repetition of flood like situation here."Added Padder Padder said that it is looks now a routine matter that floods hit Kashmir after just few hours of rain and halts every activity and added in order to overcome this Problem they (government) wants people to cooperate with them and clear illegal encroachments around river Jhelum from South to central and North Kashmir and from Flood channels to make way for water to run smoothly. According to sources government has identified over 10,000 illegal structures which are violation of Master plans and other plans of urban areas and has already framed a policy to deal with such violations both in Jammu and Srinagar Divisions.
Pertinently other day Minister of State for Housing & Urban Development, Mohammad Ashraf Mir while confirming a policy to demolish illegal constructions said that his government had decided to frame a new master plan of Srinagar city on priority and then work on demolishing illegal constructions arround water bodies including illegal constructions arround flood channels arround Sringar City posing threat to human lives with rise of water level after few hours of incessant rains.
Minister added that only those illegal constructions that have come up before March 5, 2014 will be considered for one time settlement but penalty will be imposed on them and the constructions post March 5 will be regularized but with new rules and regulations. Padder said that corrupt officials in nexus with blue eyed people are involved in allowing such illegal constructions around water bodies in both rural and urban areas but his government will not spare anybody found involved in wrong doings.
Pertinently in Srinagar earlier this year State Vigilance Organisation (SVO) booked bureaucrat turned politician and former Srinagar Municipal Corporation Commissioner, Farooq Renzu, for allowing the illegal construction of shopping within Srinagar City and an FIR (11/2015) against Renzu was registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act, sec 5 for the brazen misuse of official position. In another FIR Number (12/2015), according to sources former Srinagar Municipal Commissioner, Syed Haq Nawaz, allegedly involved in grating illegal permission to Sarah City Mall, Mustaq Ahmad Chai and Farooq Renzu who worked as municipal commissioner and later vice-chairman, Srinagar Development Authority at the time of the construction of the three malls in city centre was also booked for violating the Master plan and thereby benefiting the owners of these malls erected within Srinagar city.
