Srinagar witnesses hottest day, night

Srinagar, July 5: Kashmir valley witnessed the hottest night and day temperatures of the summer so far with some relief expected tomorrow when the sky is predicted to remain be generally cloudy.
A MET department spokesman said here this afternoon that Srinagar recorded the hottest day of the season when the mercury increased further and settled at 33.6 degrees four degrees above normal. Earlier, the hottest was recorded yesterday when it was 32.7 degree, three notches above normal. He said intervening night of July 4 and July 5 also witnessed the hottest night of the season when the mercury witnessed five degrees above normal minimum temperature.
The sky is expected to be partly cloudy and become generally cloudy later the day with the maximum and minimum temperatures hovering around 31 degrees and 16 degrees respectively during the next 24 hours.
Pahalgam, the world famous health resort, also recorded a five degrees increase in the minimum temperature. Against yesterday's 9.8 degrees it was 14.5 degrees, four notches above normal.
Famed ski resort of Gulmarg also recorded further increase in the minimum temperature and settled at 14.2 degrees, three notches above normal.
Qazigund, gateway of Kashmir recorded 18.9 degrees, four notches above normal while at Kokernag it was 19 degrees, three notches below normal while at Kupwara in north Kashmir it was 18.5 degrees against yesterday’s 15.5 degrees.
Leh recorded 10.2 degrees while it was 10.8 degrees at border town of Kargil, the spokesman said, adding that the sky would be partly cloudy and the maximum and minimum temperatures would be around 24 degrees and 13 degrees respectively. At Jammu a spell of rain or thundershowers are expected and the maximum and minimum temperature at Jammu would be around 36 degree and 25 degree respectively.
