Cloudburst wreaks havoc in Kalaban
Several structures damaged

Poonch, July 23: Massive rain and cloud burst in the upper reaches of Kalaban area wreaked havoc in Kalaban areas of Mendhar, causing extensive damage to at least a dozen structures including two Pacca houses and two Kacha houses.
Several kacha and pacca houses, ten cattle sheds and ten shops suffered minor damage.
Two steel bridges, four culverts, roads and electric poles were also washed away.
At least four cars, ten water pumping stations were washed away.
The cloud burst also caused partial damage to 20 cars and 11 water pumping stations.
Public property worth crores is feared damaged.
The sudden flash floods were witnessed at around 2 am (midnight) after cloud burst in the upper reaches of Kalaban. The people were fast asleep. They woke up with sudden flash flood while rain was not so fast. The flood water was 4 to 5 ft in some areas.
Newly constructed Sub Health Centre Bonal which was constructed by Rural Development Department at an estimate cost of Rs. 16 Lakhs, was partially damaged. Block Medical Officer Mendhar P A Khan also visits on the spot and advised people to use boiled water for drinking.
Reports further said, around one kilometer stretch of Mendhar- Kalaban road was washed away while Mendhar - Chhatral road is totally cut off due to heavy landslide.
Reliable sources said that Army quarters, bankers of 37 RR company based at Chhatral were fully damaged. The Company commander of 37 RR Major AP Singh was also injured, when he crossed the nullah for saving the life of Jawans, during crossing two weapons AK 47 were also washed away. Army Commander of 6 sectors Brigadier RP Singh, Commanding Officer of 37 RR Col. Ramneek Singh monitored the situation and provided possible relief to the victims.
ACR Poonch, Incharage SDM Mendhar, SDM Mendhar Shafiq Ahmed has donated Rs.5000 to each family whose houses were fully damaged.
Meanwhile, ACR Poonch also directeds administration to provided immediate relief including ration and utensils, tents to those families whose houses fully or partially damaged.
In charge Teshildar Mendahar Shahzad Khan, SDPO Mendhar, Shahid Nayeem, SHO Mendhar Anzir Mir besides other officers visited many affected areas and took stock of situation.
Ex MLA Mendhar and Senior leader of PDP Sardar Rafiq Hussain Khan expressing sympathy to aggrieved family and demanded government to provide immediate relief to those flood victims, while PDP State General Secretary Youth wing Nadaam Khan has demanded restoration of link road damaged and compensation to the affected families.
