Kishtwar, July 23: Principal of a government school in Kishtwar forced the students to clean the school premises, as a result of which some students fell unconscious, prompting their parents to hold protest.
On the direction of the principal of Boys Higher Secondary School Kishtwar, the students of Class 11 were told to clean the school premises, sources told Early Times.
They said the principal Parmila Sharma, under the Swatch Bharat Abiyan launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been forcing the students to clean the school despite the fact that the school has 13 peons and two sweepers for two blocks.
"The students were asked to tear out pages from their notebooks to clean the windowpanes of the classrooms. The school management even did not provide brooms to the students who had cut tree twigs to clean the school ground," sources said.
After some students fell unconscious and the news spread, their parents agitated the matter with the principal who allegedly tried to give communal colour to the situation.
The principal tried to threaten the agitating parents that she will lodge a complaint against them, sources said.
Finally, the issue was brought into the notice of Additional Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Mohammad Hanief Malik. "On finding herself on a weak wicket, the principal apologised to the agitating parents and also rushed to the homes of few others along with Chief Education Officer Kishtwar," sources said.
Talking to Early Times, mother of a student said instead of teaching them, the school management is forcing the students to clean school premises.
When contacted Director School Education Jammu Yasha Mudgal told Early Times that no order has been issued by the government or by his office asking the school managements to use the services of students for cleaning purposes.
Mudgal assured that action would be initiated against the principal in question as and when the matter will be brought into her notice.
It is pertinent to mention that only few weeks ago, the principal forced the students to clean the school track, hours before the arrival of MoS Revenue Sunil Sharma to preside over the school function.
Meanwhile, many social activists of Kishtwar termed the incident as violation of Supreme Court direction which bans such activities involving school children.
