| Police launches manhunt to track LeT militant who handed over grenades to slain PoK militant | | | S Tahir-Ul Haq

BARAMULLA, July 26: Police has spread a network to track down the LeT militant, who according to investigating agencies was responsible for passing of two hand grenades to the slain Pakistani militant of Rawalkote in June this year.
The LeT militant who according to police handed over two hand grenades to under trial prisoner in a jacket in the court premises has been identified as Ubaid Untoo, a local resident of Sopore town.
Sources in the police department said that they were looking for Ubaid Untoo as he has been involved in passing of two hand grenades to the slain under trial prisoner of PoK, who was killed along with a policeman in a police Cab near Hygam Sopore of Baramulla district on June 20.
Sources wishing anonymity said that police investigation had revealed that the slain Pakistani militant Waheed Noor Khan after obtaining grenades from Ubaid Untoo had threatened the policemen, escorting him, to release him or he would detonate the grenades.
However, the policemen pounced on him before he could do anything, but in the meantime a grenade exploded leaving Khan and a cop dead, said sources.
DIG Police, North Kashmir Range Garib Dass told Early Times that during thorough investigation it was revealed that Ubaid handed over a jacket to the slain militant.
"The slain militant after getting the jacket went to wash room and after that offered prayers and it was later on proved that Ubaid had hidden the two hand grenades inside the Jacket," said Dass.
When asked about his arrest he said that, "there are reports like that but we have not arrested him yet, but we have an information that he was roaming somewhere in Srinagar and has come down to his native place Sopore, we have laid down a track and will arrest him very soon."
"We have sufficient evidences that it was Ubaid Untoo who provided two hand grenades to the under trial prisoner," DIG added.
It would be in place to mention here that on June 20, an under trial Pakistani prisoner and a cop were killed and four policemen were also injured when a cab they were travelling in had exploded near Hygam village of Baramulla district.
The police vehicle had gone to Sopore from central jail Srinagar, along with a under trial PoK prisoner to produce him before the court in Sopore town. |
