JU glorifies KAS/ IAS qualifiers; degrades researchers, academic toppers | JRF, Scholarship being spent on IAS, KAS coaching | | G S Asgotra
Early Times Report Jammu, July 26: Research scholars of the University of Jammu are feeling dejected by the hype generated in favour of students who crack civil services examinations (KAS/IAS), ignoring those who excel in research and academics. The honour boards in the post graduate departments of history and political science which have names of all those who crack IAS/ KAS exams have particularly become contentious as scholars are questioning undue hype given to those who enter into civil services, making no mention of even the medalists and toppers . A professor, wishing not to be mentioned, said lethargic faculty members, instead of promoting good research work, were encouraging students for civil services only, adding, "It is one of reasons, most of students who are receiving Junior Research Fellowship (JRF), scholarships for research work from University Grant Commission (UGC), are spending it on KAS, IAS coaching and not for quality research," A meritorious student, wishing anonymity alleged that the department intentionally ignored those scholars who were excelling in academics; therefore there was no honour board for them. It is pertinent to mention here, due to step motherly attitude of certain departments, anger was brewing among the scholars against the faculty and the JU administration. |
