Early Times Report

Rajouri, Aug 25: Keeping in view the ongoing student unrest the administration of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) Rajouri has decided to close the University till further orders.
In this connection officiating Registrar vide his office order No BGSBU/Reg/15/5401-35 dt 25/8/15 has informed the students/ boarders to vacate the hostels. The order reads: "Consequent upon recent student's unrest in the campus and its wider implications and for prevailing peace and tranquility in the campus, in exercise of power vested with VC under statute 3(5) of the University Act , all the teaching departments including College of Engineering and Technology (CoET), center for Biodiversity Studies and Polytechnic are closed with immediate effect till further order". Since the resumption of academic session after summer vacations, the Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah university (BGSBU) Rajouri apparently has had turned into battle field between the Valley based students, who are on indefinite strike against financial irregularities/scholarship scam, and the local students who are claiming that the uncertainty and more than 20 days long strike have been affecting their studies.
Pertinently a scholarship scam was surfaced in the university involving some employees associated with the Registrar office and one Muzzafar Iqbal was also arrested by the police in May this year. Following which SSP Rajouri constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) headed by SDPO, Thanamandi and university administration had also initiated internal inquiry. During police investigation Registrar Mohd Rashid Chowdhary and Deputy Registrar (finance) were also summoned by the SIT for questioning and it was established that some over dated crossed cheques (scholarship money) were signed and made bearers by the Registrar and others which were released in favour of fake beneficiaries. Students of university had smelled foul play in both the investigation alleging interference /pressure tactic being adopted by the involved persons/Registrar and adopted agitational path. As the routine work of BGSBU was affecting severely the pressure was mounted by the civil society to defuse the situation.
Later on the directions from Chief Minister's office at about 2000 hrs on Saturday and after three days long marathon meetings between district administration (DC & SSP) University administration decided to replace Registrar and SSP agreed to replace SIT head. Following agreement students called off their indefinite strike and decided to attend classes from Monday.
Agitating student got infuriated when ex-Registrar resumed his office as OSD in the office of Vice Chancellor and they went to strike again and gherao the VC office complex till 3.00 am today.
