A right approach: Ignore Pakistani agents, says Farooq
8/26/2015 12:11:16 AM

Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 25: Without mincing words, NC president and former J&K CM Farooq Abdullah on Monday dubbed the Hurriyat leaders as "Pakistan's right arm" and urged the media and others not to pay any heed to what they say. "They represent Pakistan in Kashmir. Where is the doubt? They get money from Pakistan and speak its language. They also get money from New Delhi. It is now clear. Former RAW chief AS Dulat has said so in his book, The Vajpayee years. Don't give any importance to them," Farooq told NDTV India while speaking on the cancellation of talks between India and Pakistan. He didn't appreciate the Pakistani insistence on talks with the Hurriyat leaders. Nor did he appreciate the Hurriyat leaders' stand on talks with the visiting Pakistani National Security Advisor prior to his meeting with his Indian counterpart. He virtually endorsed the Indian line for reasons best known to him. Interestingly, he took a line different from that of his son, Omar Abdullah, who accused New Delhi of making a big issue out of a non-issue.
What Farooq told NDTV was not something new. This scribe has on a number times in these columns repeatedly said that the Hurriyat leaders were Kashmir-based Pakistani agents and that they operated from different platforms only to put more pressure on New Delhi. This scribe had repeatedly said that their single-point agenda was to promote the Pakistani sinister and sectarian agenda in J&K and that they wanted to convert J&K into a theocratic state, which would be similar to Pakistan where non-Muslim minorities, and even such Muslim sects as Shiite Muslims, were oppressed, suppressed and persecuted. But more than that, this scribe had on occasions more than one stated in these columns that the area of influence of the Hurriyat leaders was limited to only a few pockets in Srinagar city and that they survived and thrived on the blood and sweat of the gullible Kashmiri Muslims and certain vested interests in the establishment.
Now that Farooq Abdullah has dismissed the Hurriyat leaders as Pakistani representatives in Kashmir, it would be only desirable if the Mufti Government in the State and the Modi Government at the Centre take an appropriate action against them. A stringent action against them is imperative considering the fact that they play mischief from time to time in the Valley and create law and order problem there. They can't be allowed to roam freely. What India needs is an Israel-type policy that shows the enemies their rightful place.
