SRINAGAR, Aug 30 : The main nodal security agency to provide security cover to Amarnath Yatra, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Sunday said that it deployed a large number of troops this year for the job.
Amarnath Yatra started on July 2 and culminated on August 29 this year.
"67 companies including Mahila troopers were deployed for the security of Yatri convoys from Jammu to Pahalgam and Baltal besides providing security on both the routes of Yatra on Pahalgam and Baltal axis. All the base/transit camps of Yatra were provided security by CRPF, starting from Bhagwati Nagar in Jammu to Cave including Qazigund, Mir Bazar, Nunwan, Pahalgam, Chan-danwari, Sheshnag, Poshpatri, Panchtarni, Baltal, Rangamor, Domail,Neelgrath & Manigam," CRPF statement said. "Although," the statement said, "it was a joint effort with other security forces and agencies but CRPF officers and men had to toil hard being deployed on all important/sensitive places and tasks." "This year it was a very peaceful and successful Yatra in which more than 352000 Yatris visited the Shrine despite inclement weather. Not a single incident of militant act occurred and CRPF successfully ensured infallible security arrangements and related measures in smooth and peaceful conduct of pilgrimage. It was not only 67 companies, but CRPF pressed in so many other resources like QATs, BDD squads etc and manpower for smooth conduct of Yatra. CRPF also presented the humane face by providing medical cover to Yatris and locals from their own resources. CRPF arranged 14 Medical camps on the routes of Yatra in which more than 28500 Yatris and locals were facilitated and provided medical treatment. For this purpose a large no of CRPF Doctors were placed ,not only from the units deployed in J&K but Doctors of CRPF deployed elsewhere in country worked day & night to provide medical aid," the statement added.
"It was the longest tenure of Yatra in last 7 years and CRPF again played a very crucial and important role in coordination with Amarnath Shrine Board and all other agencies involved in security and all other arrangements," the statement said.
