srinagar, Sept 1: The non-migrant Kashmiri Pandits Tuesday staged massive demonstrations here to protest the government's recent decision of appointing former vice-chancellor of the Jammu University, Professor Amitabh Matto as Advisor to Chief Minister.
Shouting anti government slogans, the protesting Kashmiri Pandits under the banner of Hindu Welfare Society (HWS) assembled at Lal Chowk here and held protests against the government for allegedly turning a blind eye towards the miseries they are facing since more than two decades in Kashmir.
The protesting Pandits who have been protesting for their rights which includes special financial package for renovation of temples in Kashmir and passing of shrine bill claimed that the government has been doing nothing for the welfare of those families who preferred to live at their native places after exodus of Pandits form Kashmir in 1990.
President HWS Chunni Lal while talking to reports claimed that the government has appointed an immature person as CM's Advisor who does not know ABC of politics.
"We reject Professor Amitabh Mattoo and want the government to immediately revoke its decision of appointing him as CM's Advisor. What could he do for the welfare of non-migrant Kashmiri Pandits, we want rehabilitation and I don't think Professor Mattoo will prove helpful for us in any manner," he said.
He said that their children cannot join University or any other educational institutions fearing abnormal death due to grenades explosions.
"Those who migrated from Kashmir are far better than us as the government helped them from time to time and those who preferred to stay here were ignored. Our protest is aimed for ignorant policy adopted by the government over the grievances of non-migrant Pandits," he added.
He said that non-migrant Pandits have been facing tremendous hardships in terms of jobs to their educated unemployed youth and proper rehabilitation.
"We have been ignored by every successive regime be it NC PDP or BJP, for the last 25 years we use to spent huge sum of money to meet our relatives, attend marriage functions or funerals. Why should we tolerate this discrimination form the government," he said.
He demanded proper rehabilitation of all Pandit families and jobs to their jobless youth besides renovation of temples and passing of shrine bill.
