BANIHAL, NOV 17: The highway towns situated on Jammu Srinagar highway i.e. Banihal and Ramban of district Ramban still lack any recreational park or a sitting place which could work as a leisure place for children and visitors to valley especially during traffic snarls or prolonged jams.
Local lamented that no government yet has pondered about creating any recreation or amusement park at these two highway towns as there is not any such facility for the locals and tourist as well who opt to go to the valley
Though the Banihal could boast of having railway in hills, four way tunnels and historic Jawhar tunnels and thousands of tourists and locals pass from here every day but the lack of leisure park make many to feel something missing in their memorable journey to 'Paradise on earth - the Kashmir valley.'
Here it needs to mention that from Veerinag Kashmir to Patnitop of Jammu division there is not any recreation park at any place on highway especially in these two sleepy towns.
Locals lamented in the want of a leisure place the visitors and tourists passing through this area are seen taking their meals on the banks of the local rivulets passing through the Banihal town just because of non availability of any park in the area.
Many visitors and locals who had to take bus to their destination like Jammu or the Srinagar can be see roaming in main markets of town or sitting in traditional tea stalls to pass their time as there is no space for taking any rest in the market.
Locals also alleged that successive governments have constructed so many recreation parks in the across the state but the district Ramban especially Banihal yet has been neglected in this regard.
Locals also rued that local even have no picnic resort to visit with their families on weekends or any other holiday and if such a facility might be created in Banihal it would not only serve as a tourist attraction point but also attract local tourists also.
Therefore locals and civil society have appealed to the present collation government to create one recreation park each at Banihal and Ramban town.
